Wayne LaVerne Vickers, one of ten children of John Franklin and Agnes Anna (Adams) Vickers, was born April 5, 1933 in Brownville, Nebraska. He grew up and attended school in Brownville.
On June 28, 1952 Wayne was united in marriage to Carolyn Joann Feighner at the home of Rev. Pickrell north of Nemaha, Nebraska. They made their home in Auburn, Nebraska and were blessed with four children: Gary, Nancy, Karen, and Julie.
Wayne had various careers throughout his life. He had owned and operated a filling station, worked at Farmer’s Co-op, and for many years drove the Frito Lay delivery truck in southeast Nebraska. He also worked on construction of Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville. Even after officially retiring, Wayne found ways to keep himself busy and even make some money.
As a longtime member of the Auburn Eagles Aerie #3767, Wayne served as president multiple times. He enjoyed “casinoing” and bowling and had a good eye for special items at flea markets, garage sales, and auctions.
After Carolyn’s passing in 2016 Wayne continued to live in their home in Auburn. It was there, on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, he passed away unexpectedly at the age of 86 years and 7 months. In addition to his wife Carolyn and his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his son Gary, son-in-law Jim Hadrys, and 8 brothers and sisters.
Wayne is survived by his daughters Nancy Hadrys of Lincoln, Karen and husband Tom Myers of Lincoln, Julie Lotter of Auburn; daughter-in-law Victoria Vickers of Auburn; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and step-greats; sister Wilma Kaar of Omaha; other relatives and friends.
