Waunetta M. Hutton, formerly of Auburn, Nebraska, departed this life on July 6, 2013 at Laurie Care Center, Laurie, Missouri at the age of 101. One of ten children of William Wright and Bessie (Kennel) Wright, she was born and raised in Howe, Nebraska.
Waunetta worked as a cook for Sheriff Perry at the County Jail in Auburn. She married Floyd Hutton in 1932 in Auburn, and to this union three daughters were born: Phyllis, Glorya, and Sheila. The couple and three children moved to Nemaha, Nebraska where Floyd was employed by the WPA. The family moved to Auburn where Floyd worked as a welder at Auburn Machine Works, and then located on a farm in Nemaha County where they farmed for a number of years. In 1960 they transferred to another farm east of Auburn by the airport.
In 1973 Waunetta and Floyd retired from farming and moved into Auburn. Floyd passed away December 12, 1983 and Waunetta continued to live in the home.
Waunetta was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn and was involved with the Nemaha senior citizen group. She loved to play cards and the piano, fish, quilt, and visit her children and grandchildren. Waunetta was a great cook and homemaker.
In March of 2008 Waunetta became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn until May of 2009, when she transferred to the Laurie Care Center to be near two of her daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd and nine siblings.
Waunetta is survived by her daughters Phyllis and husband Dick Counce of Camdenton, MO; Glorya Short of Shingle Springs, CA; Sheila and husband Ron Spry of Camdenton, MO; grandchildren and their spouses Mitchell and Judy of Dodge City, KS; Taunya and Dan Goss of Camdenton, MO; Leslie and John O?Connor of Eldorado, CA; Lori and Mark Ferkovich of Roseville, CA; Denise Demello of Elk Grove, CA; Marla and Joseph Mercer of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren Seth and Dirk Wahlert; Andrea Laue; Jonathan and Kevin O?Connor; Lucas and Mason Ferkovich; Hailey Bell; Jarred Demello; and Meranda Mercer; great-great-grandchildren Dakota and Wryker Wahlert; other relatives and friends.
Graveside committal services and inurnment of ashes will be Saturday, July 27, 10:00 a.m. at Beford Cemetery near Howe, officiated by Rev. Ken Miller.
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers.
