Wanda Kay Behrends was born November 21, 1954 in Auburn, Nebraska. She was one of five children of Donald and Betty Jean (Meininger) Behrends. Wanda attended school in Auburn through the eight grade before transferring to Johnson-Brock Public Schools where she graduated high school in 1973.
Wanda worked various jobs throughout her life including with a construction company in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her real passion and most recent career was as a gambling addiction counselor. She had started with the “Choices” company in Lincoln and then started her own counseling service.
Wanda was a member of the Auburn Eagles Aerie #3767. She enjoyed crafting with ceramics and working with her flowers in the yard.
After living in Lincoln for many years Wanda moved back to Auburn to retire. She passed away unexpectedly at her home in Auburn on Sunday, November 22, 2020 just one day after her 66th birthday. Her parents, sister Karen, and brother Charles preceded her in death.
Wanda is survived by her brother Ron Behrends (Linda Bantz) of Auburn; sister Janice Andersen of Lincoln; brother-in-law Jerry Strecker of Primghar, IA; nieces, nephews, and friends.
As per Wanda’s wishes, her body will be cremated and burial of ashes will be at a later date at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery near Auburn.
