Walter Leo Boring was born January 14, 1957, in Humboldt, Nebraska to Norman “Mike” and Betty (Bucher) Boring. Walt attended Dawson-Verdon Public School and graduated in 1975.
On April 16, 1977, Walt was united in marriage to Terrie Badberg in Humboldt. They made their first home in Beatrice, Nebraska, where twins Shawna and Shane were born. In 1979 the family moved to Johnson, Nebraska where they were later blessed with the birth of daughter Sherrie.
A hard worker all his life, Walt worked for farmers while in high school. After graduation he took a job on a dairy farm in Beatrice and worked there until moving to Johnson, where he took a position with Gerald Hahn’s dairy farm. As H & H Farms was getting ready to get out of the dairy business, Walt became an employee of Nemaha County with the roads department in 1984. He became a highway superintendent on the job and for most years was classified as a foreman. Walt retired in 2021, for health reasons, after 37 years with the county.
Walt was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Johnson, as well as a prior member of the Johnson Quick Response Team and Johnson Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working in the yard. Walt was a coin collector and a fan of Husker football, and more recently, volleyball. He also loved building things, including tree houses for his children and grandchildren.
Family was very important to Walt, and he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He and Terrie spent a lot of time traveling and taking cruises. Their many trips to Colorado usually included hiking, and this past winter they enjoyed the time they had in Mission, Texas.
On Sunday morning, March 16, 2025, Walt passed away peacefully at home at the age of 68 years, 2 months, and 2 days. His parents Mike and Betty, stepfather Dwayne Kistner, father-in-law Raymond (Doris) Badberg, mother-in-law Patricia (Larry) Jensen, and son-in-law Todd Henry preceded him in death.
Left to remember Walt’s hard-working, caring ways are his wife Terrie of Johnson; children Shawna Henry of Auburn, Shane (Kim) Boring of Omaha, and Sherrie (Chris) Cain of Falls City; grandchildren Rachel (Dave) Halstead, Heather (Daniel) Terry, Addison, Hunter, and Hailey Henry, Nicholas and Elizabeth Boring, Joshua Hoff-Boring, and Presley Cain; great-grandchild Parker Terry; brothers Richard (Diana) Boring of Lincoln and Leslie (Sandy) Boring of Beatrice; sister Susan (Steve) Etherington of Vero Beach, FL; brothers-in-law Tim (Missy) Badberg of Sandy, UT, Troy (Brooke) Badberg of Loveland, CO, and Brandon (Kate) Badberg of Wahoo; many other relatives and friends.
