Theodore Carl Bohling was born July 1, 1921 on the family farm near Auburn, Nebraska. The youngest of ten children of Henry A. and Anna M. (Gebers) Bohling, Ted was baptized July 24, 1921 by Rev. Streng and confirmed June 9, 1935 by Rev. Wiebke, both ceremonies occurring at St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church near Auburn. He received his formal education at Hickory Grove School near his home.
On November 4, 1951 Theodore was united in marriage to Doloris Haack at Martin Luther Lutheran Church south of Johnson, Nebraska by Rev. Freuhling. They made their home on the farm where Ted was born, and were blessed with two children, Joyce and Arlen.
Ted farmed all his life, raising cattle and hogs in addition to his crops. He was a lifelong member of Hickory Grove Church, and served on the church council as well as singing in the choir.
When his children were young, Ted was active in 4-H projects with them. He also served on the Hickory Grove School Board. In his idle time he enjoyed reading, whether it be the newspaper or books he acquired.
Ted was admitted to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn on the evening of March 13, 2013. He passed away there on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the age of 91 years, 8 months, and 13 days. His parents, 7 sisters, and 2 brothers preceded him in death.
Those left to mourn his passing include his wife Doloris of rural Auburn; daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Jay Johnson of Tallahassee, FL; son and daughter-in-law Arlen and Karen Bohling of Downs, IL; grandchildren Jerod Johnson and his wife Erin; Janel Matyja and her husband Frank; Nicole Bohling; Travis Bohling; Kelsey Bohling; sisters-in-law Oleta Rinne of Tecumseh; Elda Beethe of Elk Creek; Luetta Volker of Johnson; brothers-in-law Lorraine and wife Kay Haack of Nebraska City; Roger Haack of Beatrice; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, March 18, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church near Auburn, officiated by Rev. Paul Lillenas. Kim Kruger was accompanist for congregational hymns. Pallbearers were Jerod Johnson, Frank Matyja, Travis Bohling, Larry Bohling, Ryan Bohling, Willis Bohling, and Will Levin. Burial was in the St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Cemetery.
