Thelma Mae (Brown) Blount was born December 16, 1915 at Salem, Nebraska. One of five children of Floyd and Fern (McDowell) Brown, she attended rural schools near Salem and Peru, Nebraska.
On December 3, 1936 Thelma was united in marriage to Loyal Irvin Blount in Sidney, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Gale, Caren, and Dennis. Thelma and Loyal made their home in the Brownville and Auburn, Nebraska area.
Thelma?s first and foremost priority was raising her children and running the household. From about 1950 to 1962 Thelma worked with her husband in the Auburn Home Bakery, which they owned. She especially enjoyed decorating cakes for others to enjoy. After they sold the bakery, Thelma worked at Glen?s Drug Store in Auburn for over 20 years.
Thelma was a member of the Auburn Christian Church, where she was active in Mary-Martha Circle and other church activities. She also belonged to the Bethel Women?s Club. Thelma enjoyed gardening, baking, making jelly, and was almost famous for her apple butter. In her earlier years she loved to ride horses.
Thelma continued to live on the farm for many years after Loyal died. She eventually moved into Auburn, and in August of 2008 became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn, where she enjoyed the activities and fellowship of other residents. After suffering a stroke, she passed away at Good Sam on Friday, May 22, 2009 at the age of 93 years, 5 months, and 6 days. Besides her husband Loyal and her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her brothers Cleon and Ed and sisters Marie and Betty.
Thelma is survived by her children Gale and wife Karin Blount of Crestview, FL; Caren and husband Bill Howes of Loveland, CO; Dennis and wife Erna Blount of rural Brownville; grandchildren Carol and husband Randy Lawhorn; Cindy Richardson; Tony and wife Jeannette Blount; Darrel Blount; Mindy and husband Brad Ritchie; Bryce and wife Holly Warren; Bryan and wife Jackie Warren; Stacey Blount and fiancé Greg Cook; Shannon and husband Ryan Chapman; Sheena and husband Eli Davidson; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Frank Zimmerman. Special music was presented by soloist Debbie Meyer and accompanist Carlene Andrew. Pallbearers were Gale Blount, Dennis Blount, Ryan Chapman, Greg Cook, and Eli Davidson. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Howes, Bryce Warren, Darrel Blount, Bryan Warren, and Tony Blount. Burial followed in the London Cemetery near Auburn.
