Shirley Jean (Reber) Henning, one of three children of Gerald and Elva (Patton) Reber, was born March 6, 1926 near Elmwood, Nebraska. She graduated from Alvo High School, attended Peru State College, and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Omaha University.
On January 15, 1945 Shirley was united in marriage to L.E. ?Gene? Henning in Hiawatha, Kansas. Three children, Hans, Teresa, and Desiree, were born to this union.
Shirley taught elementary classes in the Ralston Public Schools for many years. After her retirement, she devoted much of her spare time to reading. She loved to submerse herself in a good book.
After Gene?s passing in May of 2009 Shirley continued to live at their home in Ralston for over two years. In August of 2011 she entered Hospice House of Omaha, and it was there she passed away on Friday, August 12, 2011 at the age of 85 years, 5 months, and 6 days. In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her infant daughter Desiree, brother Jerry, and sister DeeVee Comstock.
Shirley is survived by her son Hans E. and wife Juliette Henning of Omaha; daughter Teresa and husband David Decker of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren Samuel Decker, John Decker, Sophie Henning, and Jackson Henning; great-grandchild Quinn Decker; brothers-in-law Charles and wife Jane Henning, Johnilee Henning, Jerry and wife Barbara Henning, Jerry Comstock; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Graveside committal and inurnment of ashes was Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at London Cemetery near Auburn, officiated by Rev. Frank Zimmerman.
