Sally Jane (Povondra) McAdams, one of five children of Raymond Frank and Dolores Jean (Steelman) Povondra, was born February 13, 1956 in Lead, South Dakota. She attended elementary school in South Dakota, but finished her education in California, graduating from Pacific High School in San Bernardino in 1974.
On July 6, 2004 Sally was united in marriage to Robert McAdams in Anchorage, Alaska. They made their home in Peru, Nebraska and Sally accepted Bob’s 2 daughters and other family as her own.
During her lifetime Sally had worked at various jobs around the country. She had worked for Marriot reservations and Seacoast Medical. Sally served as part-time clerk for the City of Peru and worked for Creative Dining at Peru State College, where she loved visiting with the students.
Sally was involved in other ways in her community. She was a member of Peru Housing Authority, Peru VFW Auxiliary, Kiwanis, Tuesday Literary Club, and the Mt. Vernon Cemetery Auxiliary. She was a past member of Job’s Daughters and PEO. Sally enjoyed playing bridge, baking, and scratch off tickets.
After Bob’s passing in 2018 Sally continued living in Peru, even after flooding forced her out of her home. She was admitted to Clarkson Hospital in Omaha on December 9, 2019. Sally passed away there on Friday, December 20, 2019 at the age of 63 years, 10 months, and 7 days. In addition to her husband Bob, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Carol Tulk, Sharon Leighton; and brother Raymond Povondra.
Sally is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Shelley and David Cygan of Lincoln; Kelly and Dave Adams of Peru; grandchildren Karlye Cygan and fiancé Reece Eddins, Sarabeth McAdams and fiancé Dustin Scott; great-grandson Tanner; sister and brother-in-law Laurie and Steven Hobbs of Omaha; nephew Jason Hobbs; nieces and spouses Melissa and John Horsley, Erin and Don Welch, Brandi and Eric Stadie, Sarah Leighton; great-nephew Riley; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Jackie Gfeller. Honorary bearers were Terry Reeves, Jamie Reeves, Arthur Reeves, Tanner McAdams, and Jason Hobbs. Burial of ashes will be at a later date.
