Rose M. Winegardner

Rose Mary (Barco) Winegardner, one of two children of Arthur Udell and Margaret Helen (Brown) Barco, was born February 4, 1933, in Granite City, Illinois. After graduating from high school and throughout her life Rose furthered her education at the Universities of Missouri, Kansas, and Wyoming, eventually earning her specialist’s degree and stopping just short of PhD.

On July 23, 1954, Rose was united in marriage to Carl Norman Winegardner in Paola, Kansas. They were blessed with twin daughters, Laura Helen Thelma Rose, and a son, Jacob Harrison. The family lived in Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska before Rose and Carl moved to Auburn, Nebraska in 1981.

A special education teacher, Rose taught in various schools as the family moved to different areas. She was employed with Falls City Public Schools when she retired.

Rose was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church during her time in Auburn. She had many interests, most notably her love of classical music.

Carl passed away on June 27, 2004, and Rose continued to live in their home in Auburn. As her health failed recently, she entered Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation in Beatrice, Nebraska. She passed away there on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at the age of 91 years and 6 months. In addition to her husband Carl, Rose was preceded in death by her son Jacob and her brother Sam Udell Barco.

Rose is survived by her daughters Laura Helen Winegardner of Auburn and Thelma Rose Gordon of Decatur, IL.
