Ronald Charles Pohlman, the only child of Charles A. and Minnie (Theis) Pohlman, was born September 10, 1939 in Auburn, Nebraska. Ron was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church in rural Auburn. He attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Johnson High School in 1957. Ron attended Boy’s State while in high school, and also won awards for his car designs. After graduation Ron worked for Pohlman Motors in Auburn as a mechanic.
Ron was united in marriage to Sylvia Beard on November 4, 1961 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn. To this union were born: Kay, Beth, and Laura. Ron and Sylvia made their home in Holdrege, Murray, and Auburn in Nebraska. While in Murray he owned and operated his own automotive repair business for many years. After returning to Auburn, Ron worked for Armstrong Cabinets and Ariens Manufacturing.
Ron was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Auburn. He was an elected member of the Murray Village Board for many years. Ron also served on the church council at Christ Lutheran Church near Louisville, Nebraska, and was president of Sports Boosters at Conestoga. In his spare time he enjoyed refinishing furniture, home improvement projects, gardening, and keeping a beautiful lawn. He and Sylvia enjoyed traveling. His greatest joy came from his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
After a two year illness, Ron passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society-Auburn at the age of 74 years, 7 months, and 15 days. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Ron is survived by his wife Sylvia of Auburn; daughters and sons-in-law Kay and Scott Jones of Omaha; Beth and Mark Nutzman of Nehawka, Laura and Todd Mather of Auburn; grandchildren Nicholas and Nathan Murdoch, Kent and Kate Nutzman of Nehawka; Bryant Seeley of Corpus Christi, TX; Elise Lewin of Auburn; Alyssa, Amy, and Ian Mather of Auburn; Dante Jones of Omaha; great-grandchildren Evelyn Murdoch of Nehawka; Bridget, Kendall, and Justin Murdoch of Nehawka; former son-in-law Duane Murdoch of Nehawka; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be Saturday, May 3, 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Auburn. Inurnment of ashes will follow in St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Cemetery near Auburn. No visitation or viewing is planned.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to family choice.
