Roger Lee Teten, the youngest of four children of Edward and Anna (Eiben) Teten, was born January 2, 1944 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. He was baptized February 16, 1944 at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Talmage, Nebraska, and confirmed June 6, 1957 in the same church. Roger attended rural school near Talmage and graduated from Talmage High School in 1962.
On June 20, 1963 Roger was united in marriage to Mary Niedermeyer at Zion United Church of Christ in Talmage. They were blessed with three children, Annette, Jeffrey, and Denise, and made their home in Talmage.
A butcher by trade, Roger was owner/operator of Kreimer?s Store in Talmage for 43 years. After selling the store and retiring, he worked part-time at Farmer?s Cooperative Company in Talmage.
Roger was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Talmage, was a charter member of the Talmage Rescue Squad, and belonged to the Talmage Fire Department. He served on church council, the town board and as Mayor of Talmage. Spare time would find Roger working in his wood shop on a project or playing cards with family or friends. He loved being with family, and liked nothing better than spending time with his kids and grandkids.
After an accident at work in Talmage, Roger was rushed to St. Mary?s Hospital in Nebraska City. He passed away there on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the age of 69 years and 27 days. His parents, brothers Merlyn and Victor, brother-in-law Donald Grotrian, and nephew Bill Lynch preceded him in death.
Roger is survived by his wife Mary of Talmage; children Annette and husband Rex Shipley of Lincoln; Jeffrey Teten and fiance Jill Hultquist of Underwood, IA; Denise and husband Ben Walbrecht of Lincoln; grandchildren Rachel Teten, Caitlyn Walbrecht, Zachery Teten, and Allison Walbrecht; sister Viola Grotrian of Auburn; sister-in-law Georgia Teten of Nebraska City; brother-in-law Richard Niedermeyer of Lincoln; many other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 2, 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Talmage. Cremation will follow the services, and burial of ashes will be at a later date in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery near Talmage. Visitation will be at the funeral home in Auburn Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and at the church in Talmage 6:00 to 8:00, with family greeting friends.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to Talmage Fire and Rescue or Faith Lutheran Church.
