Richard Daryl Parriott, one of five children of Richard E. and Fern (Adams) Parriott, was born August 12, 1931 on the family farm near Peru, Nebraska. He attended Honey Creek school near his home through 8th grade when he went to Peru Prep and graduated from high school.
Dick joined the United States Air Force and served until his honorable discharge, when he returned to Peru. In 1959 Dick was married to Jann Hoffman. They would be blessed with two children, Lisa, and Greg. Dick owned and operated the farm where he was born until retiring in 1983.
Dick was a member of the Peru VFW Post #7299 and served as commander for over 30 years. He belonged to the Auburn American Legion Post #23 and the Peru Masonic Lodge, followed by the Brownville Lodge.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing golf. He spent many summers in Canada and served as a fishing guide. He often traveled to Texas with friends for fishing during the winter. He and his brothers-in-law golfed in the “Uncles Open”, an annual family golf vacation. He was very proud to be a grandpa and loved spending time with his grandsons and cheering them on at sporting events.
As his health declined, Dick continued to live at his home in Peru with the aid of his family and health professionals. It was at his home on Thursday, November 26, 2020 that he passed away with family around him. He had reached the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 14 days and was preceded in death by his sisters Jean Hatten and Donnal-deen Lewis.
Among those who will remember Dick fondly are his daughter Lisa Parriott of Peru; son and daughter-in-law Greg and Dawn Parriott of Peru; grandchildren Nicholas, Gavin, Tyler, and Benjamin; sisters Betty Oliver of Sedona, AZ and Jody Russell of Cottonwood, AZ; other relatives and friends.
