Richard Daniel "Dan" Boyer

Richard Daniel Boyer, one of five children of Raymond and Alta (Spader) Boyer, was born December 31, 1944, at Lushton, Nebraska. Dan, as he was known, grew up the son of a minister and moved around some as a child, but received much of his early education at Tilden, Nebraska, where he graduated from high school in 1963. After high school, Dan attended barber college in Lincoln.

After working several years as a barber in Lincoln and Omaha, Dan moved to Hastings, Nebraska to work at the Hastings Regional Center. It was at Hastings, that he was introduced to the daughter of a co-worker, Marceleen McCoy. The two would be married on August 23, 1975, at Hastings by Dan’s father, Rev. Raymond Boyer. Dan and Marci would move to Auburn, Nebraska in 1977, to make their home and raise their two children: Michael and Alecia.

While in Auburn, Dan was employed by Magnolia Metal Corporation in their shipping and receiving department from 1977 to 1992. He then worked at the VF Factory Outlet Mall in Nebraska City from 1993 until his retirement in 2008.

Dan loved spending time with his family, from following his grandchildren and their various activities and sports they were involved in, to taking trips together throughout the years. He enjoyed camping and watching sports, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

On the evening of Sunday, March 26, 2023, Dan passed away at his home in Auburn, surrounded by family, having reached the age of 78 years, 2 months, and 23 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Raymond and Alta Boyer, and brothers Ray and Rodney Boyer.

Those left to remember his caring ways include his wife Marceleen; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kathy Boyer of Auburn; daughter and son-in-law Alecia and Nathaniel Gerdes of Johnson; grandchildren Tessa, Abygail, and Brayden Boyer, David, Ellanor, and Vivian Gerdes; brother Rodger (Judy) Boyer of Wausa; sister LuAnn (Terry) Thacker of Lincoln; sisters-in-law Joyce Boyer of Smith Center, KS, Crystal Boyer of Bozeman, MT; brother-in-law Wes McCoy of Hastings; sisters-in-law Sally (Cal) Steepleton of Hastings, Kathy (Garet) Wetzel of Magnolia, TX; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.



A memorial service will be Saturday, April 1, 10:30 a.m., at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial will follow in Heim Cemetery at Dawson. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00.
