Raymond D. Gobber, age 83 of Auburn (formerly Elk Creek), passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. He was born January 3, 1927 near Elk Creek. Raymond was an Army veteran of WWII and a lifelong farmer. He was preceded in death by his grandson Erik Veburg.
Survivors include his wife Norma of Auburn; daughters Wanda (David) Grothen of Lincoln; Sharlotte (Gene) Veburg of Lincoln; grandchildren Kara Grothen, Tracey Grothen and fiance Brett Maly; Emily (Bradley) Steinhoff; Mike Veburg; great-grandson Brandon Steinhoff; brothers Orville (Erma) Gobber of Manhattan, KS; Robert (Vicky) Gobber of Gretna; sisters Ilma Gottula of Tecumseh; Eldonna Forrest of Plattsmouth; sister-in-law Elvera Bohling of Tecumseh; brother-in-law Walt Knippelmeyer of Johnson; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 17, 11:00 a.m. at St. James (Long Branch) Lutheran Church near Humboldt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with graveside military honors provided by American Legion Post #370 of Elk Creek. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 4:00 to 6:00.
