Randy Thrapp

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for the time we shared, we remember our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Randall "Randy" Kent Thrapp. Born on October 16, 1960, in Nebraska City, Randy lived a life filled with adventure, hard work, and a love for the people and passions that made his world special. He passed away on March 4, 2025, at the age of 64, leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever.

Randy had an undeniable appetite for life, a love for the open road, and a deep appreciation for the bonds of family and friendship. Growing up in Bellevue and Nebraska City, he worked hard from an early age, taking on jobs delivering papers for the Omaha World-Herald, Nebraska City Sale Barn, and working harvest seasons across the Midwest. He was known for his passion for animals, collecting exotic birds and livestock, and dedicating himself to his hobby farm, Rand-Am Exotics.

Randy had a passion for adventure and capturing the world around him. Whether behind the wheel of his Jeep Wrangler or Camaro or behind the lens of his camera, he found joy in exploring nature, photographing animals, and visiting national parks. He had a deep appreciation for capturing the beauty of nature, with animals and national parks being his favorite subjects. His American-themed Jeep was more than a vehicle—it was a symbol of adventure, camaraderie, and love for his country. He relished every Jeep meet, every duck received, and every road trip, especially those that led to a wildlife sanctuary and scenic routes.

Randy was also a storyteller. Whether reminiscing about his own pastimes or cruising through Nebraska City just for the fun of it, he filled every conversation with a big smile and laughter. He loved classic muscle cars, and he had a deep appreciation for the thrill of power sports and four-wheeling.

In 2001, Randy was united in marriage to Amelia McAlexander. Randy welcomed Amelia’s two children, Jessica and Travis, as his own. Travis will always be his little buddy and Randy is remembered by the love and patience he always showed and when needed most.

Family was always at the core of who he was, and nothing brought him more happiness than his grandchildren. Randy and Amelia later divorced but he remained a steadfast father figure to Jessica, and a devoted grandfather to Georgianna and Jeremiah.

Whenever Randy wasn’t lighting up the holidays with his grandkids, he found joy in the company of his sisters, Dawn, Gina, and Lori. Just like Randy, they expressed their love through the precious gift of time spent together, celebrating the bond they shared.

So many memories created and simple moments of togetherness, were some of the most cherished times for those who loved him.

Randy was a hardworking man, spending years at Armstrong Cabinets in Auburn until its closing, moving on to Orschelns and then Valmont Industries in Valley. His strong work ethic and dedication were unmatched, and his presence left a lasting impact on those he worked with.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Eileen (Gess) Thrapp. He leaves behind his loving sisters, Dawn Thrapp, Gina Looney, and Lori Thrapp, all of Omaha; his stepchildren Jessica (Lucas) Geyer of Humboldt and Travis Pine of Brownville; step-son-in-law Pete Melcher; and his grandchildren, Georgianna and Jeremiah, who will forever carry the love and laughs he imparted.

To honor his incredible life, we invite family and friends to gather for a celebration of life on Sunday, March 30th, from 1-3 PM at the Lied Lodge (Rosenow Room) in Nebraska City. Members of his Jeep club will be in attendance, and we encourage all who knew him to bring their stories to share. Let’s come together with love, laughter, and the spirit of adventure Randy so deeply cherished.

Though he is no longer with us in body, his love, adventure, and unwavering loyalty live on in each of us. Rest easy, Randy, your road continues in the hearts of those you touched.
