Peggy Mayfield, 67, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2021, with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Dick and Evelyn Rohlfs, July. 20, 1953 in Syracuse, Nebraska. After living on the farm for her early years, the family moved to town. Peggy graduated from Syracuse High School in 1971. She was involved in Sunday school, 4-H, cheerleading, majorette, band, and Jaycees. Her accomplishments that she was proud of included having a perfect Sunday school attendance record and being a majorette in the band during the 1971 Orange Bowl parade.
She married Steven Mayfield in 1977, and they lived together at various locations before ultimately relocating to her hometown of Syracuse in 2013. Peggy is survived by her husband Steve, her sister Judy Hatten and her husband Dave, her brother Rolly, sister-in-law Linda Rohlfs, and her two sons Caleb and Nathan. Peggy was predeceased by her parents Dick and Evelyn, her brother Roger, her father and mother-in-law Bob and LaVerne Mayfield, and her sister-in-law Sheila Mayfield.
Peggy was an accomplished quilter and sewer who loved making blankets. She enjoyed baking bread and treats for her family. In her later years she taught herself how to play piano and enjoyed playing for family and friends. She always had a love of water and being near a lake, and enjoyed vacationing in the Ozarks. Peggy was immensely proud of her boys. She will be missed by many.
Funeral service will be Saturday, March 6, 2021, 10:00 a.m., at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00. Burial will follow in Park Hill Cemetery at Syracuse.
