Peggy Ellen (Pribbenow) Long passed away on October 23, 2022, after a lengthy illness. Peggy was raised on the Pribbenow family farm north of Nora Springs, Iowa. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1960 and married Daryl Long a few days later. She then immediately enrolled at Iowa State University, where she and Daryl worked their way through school, with Peggy earning a Bachelor of Science in Education. Peggy later taught in the Lincoln, Julian, and Auburn school districts.
Peggy had many interests. She was a voracious reader, loved to cook, a seamstress making Daryl’s sports coats for years, sewed quilts, and gardened when time permitted. She even took flying lessons up to the point of soloing, but then got cold feet. Over the years, she was early service organist for 15 years and treasurer at the Auburn United Methodist Church. She supported the Blood Mobile by setting donation appointments. As the kids were growing up she volunteered for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Peggy enjoyed family vacations at Rocky Mountain National Park; family fishing vacations to northwest Ontario Canada; and later to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with Daryl.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Vivian (Kline) Pribbenow and Truman Pribbenow, and daughter Christy Jo (Long) Rikli. Those who will continue to cherish her memory include husband, Daryl Long; son Keith Long and wife Jennifer (Spear), and their daughters Mykayla, McKenzy, and Maleigha; son Eric and wife Beth (Graves), and their children Truman, Cassidy, and Camdyn; son-in-law Tom Rikli and his and Christy’s children, Josh and Alexa; and Peggy’s sister Dianne (Pribbenow) McNeal.
Remembrances and condolences may be provided to the Auburn Memorial Library Foundation (www.auburnmemoriallibrary.com) or the Arthritis Foundation (www.arthritis.org).
