Nancy C. (Wilberger) Humphrey passed on to eternal life on February 1, 2025, at Beatrice Community Hospital in Beatrice, Nebraska. She was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska on March 29, 1946. Nancy attended school in Brock, Nebraska where she was active in the music programs and sports. She married Larry Humphrey on October 3, 1964. Three children were born to this union.
Nancy attended beauty school and had a shop in Brock for several years until they started their family. She also worked at Hinky Dinky in Auburn, Nebraska, helping to put Larry through college. Larry and Nancy lived in various places while Larry either taught or was an administrator. During those 32 years she drove the school bus at each location.
Nancy was a “get it done yesterday” person, tackling carpentry, plumbing and electrical projects. No project was too large! At times, when the plumbing project didn’t come out as it should, she would call a plumber to help ‘fix’ her mistakes, but Larry was never the wiser.
Nancy’s talent didn’t stop when using tools. She was also quite a seamstress, making clothes for her families and for various school activities, as well as becoming active in reupholstering furniture and all of their boats. In later years she became interested in quilting, making numerous beautiful quilts for each member of her family.
After Larry retired, fishing became one of their favorite pastimes; Harlan County Reservoir being their main destination. Nancy could out-fish everyone! For her, there was nothing that could compare to sitting on the boat in the middle of the lake, basking in the sun and catching fish. It wasn’t until the past few years when declining health prohibited them from continuing their love of being outdoors.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Larry of Beatrice; son Charles (wife Rochelle) of Beatrice; daughter Heather (husband, Gary) Cullison, of Beatrice; grandchildren Matisyn (Cody) Welsch, Makenzi (Levi) Licking, Myranda Humphrey, William Humphrey, Eli Humphrey, Eric (Courtney) Cullison, Dalton Cullison, and Dylan Cullison; great grandchildren McKinley and Aspen Cullison, Quincy and Emma Welsch, and Anna Lynn Licking; sister Deborah (Ray) Gadeken; sister-in-law Beverly Rhodes; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents Harry and Shirley (Shanks) Wilberger; parents-in-law William and Nellie Humphrey; brother and sister-in-law Keith and Barbara Fryer; brother-in-law Everett Rhodes; son Matthew; great grandson Elliott Cullison; and nephew Ryan Gadeken.
Family would like any and all memorials to be made to the Beatrice Special Olympics or Beatrice Back Pack Program.
A funeral service will be Friday, February 7, 10:30 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Sharon Schuster. Burial will follow in Sheridan Cemetery at Auburn.
