Mildred Marie Knoflicek was born January 19, 1920, in Plattsmouth, Nebraska to August F. and Mary Jane (Jiran) Knoflicek. The youngest of eleven children, she grew up on a farm near Plattsmouth and graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1937. Mildred won the State Music Teachers Contest playing the violin and received a scholarship to Peru State College. She earned her teaching degree at Peru State, but more importantly met her future husband.
On August 8, 1940, Mildred was united in marriage to Robert R. Weber in Plattsmouth. The couple would be blessed with six children: John, Daniel, Joel, Mary, Barbara, and Margaret.
Mildred used her education and taught at schools in Kansas City and Denver. She was an executive secretary in New York, and played her beloved violin in the Dallas Symphony, Omaha Symphony, and for orchestras in Guam and New York. Mildred was active in Catholic Daughters, Music Club, and PFF Bridge Club. She was a tireless volunteer, giving violin lessons, helping clean and keep records at the rectory in Dawson, and helping children read for years at Sacred Heart School. She was a long-time member of St. Anne’s Church in Shubert and most recently Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Falls City.
In July of 2019 Mildred became a resident of Falls City Nursing and Rehabilitation in Falls City, Nebraska. It was there she passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at the age of 102 years, 7 months, and 30 days. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, all of her siblings, and her son John.
Mildred is survived by her sons Daniel of Laguna Beach, CA and Joel of Auburn; daughters Mary Barker and husband Jeff of Shubert, Barbara Weber and husband James Kenny of Skillman, NJ, Margaret Weber and husband Mike Sabanos of Brooklyn, NY; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 24, 11:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Falls City. Burial will follow in St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery near Shubert. Family will greet friends at the funeral home in Auburn Friday starting at 6:00 p.m., followed by Rosary at 7:00.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to Falls City Sacred Heart School.
