Mildred Mae (Alkire) Conner, one of six children of Joseph P. and Yvetta Nancy (Strange) Alkire, was born February 9, 1916 in Brock, Nebraska. Mildred attended elementary and high school in Brock before her family moved to Auburn, Nebraska in 1933.
On February 3, 1936 Mildred was united in marriage to Curtis E. Conner in Auburn. The couple made Auburn their home, and were blessed with three children: Curtis, Darlene, and Sharon.
Mildred worked at the former Grant?s Grocery in Auburn, and then at G & S Manufacturing for 25 years before retiring. She then served as a caregiver for her husband and later her daughter Darlene.
Mildred grew up in the Brock United Methodist Church, and later attended first United Methodist Church in Auburn. She loved being outdoors, and spent many hours doing yardwork and tending to her garden. She also enjoyed sewing.
In May of 2010 Mildred became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. It was there she passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the age of 96 years, 1 month, and 15 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Darlene Cooney, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Mildred is survived by her son Curtis Conner, Jr. of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Ron Bollinger of Auburn; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Bedford Cemetery near Howe, with Dr. Fred Richart officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff Allgood, Randy Carlson, Chance Brueggemann, Grant Brueggemann, Dennis Kirkpatrick, and Tom Cooney. Burial followed the services.
