Mike Mckee

Michael Mallory McKee, one of two sons of Carl Kaufman and Jane (Fible) McKee, was born September 28, 1944 in Auburn, Nebraska. Mike attended school in Auburn, graduating from high school in 1962. Shortly after high school Mike joined the U. S. Navy, and served on an aircraft carrier during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge in 1969, Mike returned to Auburn.

Mike worked at the WoodCarv cabinet factory in Auburn upon his return from service, and also worked at Morton House Kitchens in Nebraska City. Later he and his brother Bill formed a partnership doing yard work and snow removal for people in the Auburn area.

Mike enjoyed sports, and played baseball for the American Legion team in Auburn. His team was the Nebraska state champion in 1960 and runner-up the following year. Later in life he was a member of American Legion Post #23 in Auburn. In addition to being a big sports fan, Mike also liked to read.

For health reasons, Mike became a resident of the Golden Living Center assisted living in Nebraska City, and later moved to the nursing home. It was there he passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the age of 67 years, 5 months, and 22 days. His parents preceded him in death.

Mike is survived by his brother Bill of Auburn, other relatives and many friends.

Graveside funeral services were held Friday, March 23, 2012 at Sheridan Cemetery near Auburn, officiated by Rev. Frank Zimmerman. Members of American Legion Post #23 and the Navy Military Honors Team served as pallbearers. Burial followed, with graveside military honors provided by American Legion Post #23 and the Navy Military Honors Team.
