Marcelene Marie (Rademacher) Behrends, one of two children of Julius T. and Mary (Adamson) Rademacher, was born October 23, 1922 on the family farm six miles south of Johnson, Nebraska. She was baptized December 10, 1922 by Rev. W.R. Fruehling at Martin Luther Lutheran Church near Johnson and confirmed April 5, 1936 by Rev. Ernest N. Haugse at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn. Marcelene attended District 61 Pleasant View School, Auburn High School, and graduated from Johnson High School in 1939.
On September 1, 1943 Marcelene was united in marriage to Marvin H. Behrends at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm southeast of Johnson until 1952, when they moved into Auburn.
Marcelene started working as an operator for Lincoln Telephone Company in Auburn, and later became a cashier for them. She retired from that position after 33½ years with the phone company.
As a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Marcelene belonged to the WELCA and was involved in other church activities. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #330 Auxiliary of Johnson. In her younger years Marcelene enjoyed boating, camping, and gardening. Later she and Marvin loved to dance, play cards and dominoes, and they golfed as well. She always enjoyed being around her family.
Marcelene?s health began to fail, and when she could no longer stay at home she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn in May of 2013. It was there she passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the age of 90 years, 9 months, and 19 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harlan Rademacher, his wife Beverly and her second husband Milton Gilbertson, brother-in-law Harlan Behrends, sister-in-law Alberta Hector and her husband Lawrence.
Marcelene is survived by her husband Marvin of Auburn; sister-in-law Ardis Behrends of Auburn; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 14, 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn. Burial will follow in the Sheridan Cemetery at Auburn. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 5:00 to 7:00.
