Lloyd Williams

Lloyd Charles Williams, son of Albert and Nita (Duerfeldt) Williams, was born November 1, 1920 on a farm north of Stella, Nebraska. He was one of three children.

He attended Stella High School and received his high school diploma in 1938. On October 22, 1942 Lloyd enlisted in the Army Air Force and served his country until the end of World War II. He was honorably discharged from duty on January 17, 1946.

On February 21, 1947, Lloyd was united in marriage to Mona M. Handley at Coryell Park near Brock, Nebraska. To this union two sons were born. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Williams settled on the W.B. Williams farm northeast of Stella and lived there for 23 years. They then bought a farm north of Stella where Lloyd continued to live until his recent health problems.

Lloyd was a lifelong farmer. He was appointed Nemaha County Weed Control Superintendent in 1966. He continued as Weed Control Superintendent for 20 years until he retired from the position in 1986.

He was a member of American Legion Post #23 in Auburn, Nebraska. Lloyd was also a member of the Stella Community Church and served on the church council board and was a deacon for many years.

After a short illness, Lloyd passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mona, who passed away July 4, 1997; and his brother, Donald, in 2011.

Lloyd is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law Lanny and Mary Jane Williams of Auburn; Dennis Williams of Stella; 2 grandchildren Jaime Williams and Joel and wife Sara Williams; great-grandson Caleb Williams; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Dorothy Williams of Comanche, IA; other relatives and many friends.
