Linda Lee (Simmons) Barrett was born June 12, 1948 in Auburn, Nebraska to William and Helen (Lotter) Simmons. One of three children, Linda grew up and attended school in Brock, Nebraska.
In 1965 Linda was united in marriage to Gary Lockwood. Their union was blessed with three children, Michele, Tracy, and Shawn. The couple was married for 18 years before separating in divorce. In 2000 Linda married Wilber Dean Barrett. They made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Linda welcomed Dean?s children into her family.
Linda worked for many years at the American Meter Plant in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Later, while in Lincoln, she worked at Von Maur and most recently at The Fort.
As a young girl, Linda was involved in 4-H and sang in her church in Brock. In her later years she loved to travel, and her destinations included Hawaii, Ireland, Cancun, Pensacola, and Graceland. As her kids grew and left home, her dogs Mickey, Minnie, and Mokie became her new children.
Suffering from the effects of cancer, and with family around her, Linda passed away at her home in Lincoln on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the age of 64 years, 8 months, and 1 day. Her parents Bill and Helen, step-father Warren Lyden, and husband Dean preceded her in death.
Linda is survived by her daughters Michele Oldfield of Nebraska City, NE; Tracy Thomas and husband Eddie of Doniphan, NE; son Shawn Lockwood and wife Rosey of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren Cameron, Tesla, and Blake Oldfield, Chastity and Casey Clark, Montanna Kinart, Adrienne Thomas, James, Devin, Logan, Kaiden, and Mason Lockwood; great-grandchildren Hailey and Sophia; brothers Todd Simmons; Kevin Simmons of Red Oak, IA; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Corey Miller. Special pre-recorded music was played. Pallbearers were Blake Oldfield, Casey Clark, James Lockwood, Eddie Thomas, Ralph Andrew, and Rick Holland. Adrienne Thomas was honorary bearer. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery near Auburn.
