Leslie Diane Justus

June 24, 1959 — May 15, 2014

Leslie Diane (Wheeler) Justus, second of two daughters of Dennis and Carol (Zorn) Wheeler, was born June 24, 1959 in Auburn, Nebraska. She received her early education at Auburn Public Schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1978. Leslie then attended Southeast Community College in Lincoln.

On June 11, 1978 Leslie was united in marriage to Steven Ray Justus at the First Presbyterian Church in Auburn. They were blessed with five children: Vanessa, Blake, Jarrod, Ethan, and Jessica.

Although she had other career interests, Leslie devoted herself to raising her children and running the household. She and Steve owned and operated the Dairy Chef in Auburn for 10 years, plus Leslie earned her real estate license and worked with American Dream Realty in town.

Leslie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Auburn. In her spare time she loved to go “antiquing”, and spent many hours pursuing her interest. She also enjoyed taking day trips with her family to Perry Lake in Kansas.

Discovering in January of 2014 that she had cancer, Leslie put up a valiant struggle against the disease. She had various hospital stays, and on May 13 was admitted to the University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska for the last time. She passed away there, with family around her, on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the age of 54 years, 10 months, and 17 days.

Leslie is survived by her husband Steve of Auburn; daughters and son-in-law Vanessa Justus of Poplar Bluff, MO; Jessica and Gary Nerison of Auburn; sons and daughters-in-law Blake and Meredith Justus of Des Moines, IA; Jarrod and Amanda Justus of Tioga, ND; Ethan Justus of Auburn; grandchildren Nolyn, Brookleynn, Jonathan, Christopher, Alexander, Millie, and another on the way; parents Dennis and Carol Wheeler of Auburn; parents-in-law Charles and Sue Justus of Auburn; sister Lee Wheeler of Wallingford, PA; nephew Reb and wife Nancy Wheeler of Maplewood, NJ; great-nieces Ella, Ava, and Maren; other relatives and friends.
