Leon P. Eickhoff of rural Stella, son of Joe and Lucille Eickhoff, was born in Falls City on April 29, 1949. He graduated from Falls City Sacred Heart in 1967 and Peru State College in 1972, lettering in baseball and earning a Bachelor?s degree in Business. He devoted his life to farming in Nemaha and Richardson counties. He was committed to sound agricultural practices and took particular pride in the conservation improvements he was able to achieve in the land he farmed.
He was an avid golfer and sports fan. He loved his family, his work, and his dogs. As a young man, he was known as a fierce competitor whether bowling, playing basketball, or playing softball for the Hooters of Shubert.
Leon Eickhoff is survived by his wife of 32 years, Beth; sons Jerry and wife Sheryl Bebb of Stella and Trever and wife Stevie Eickhoff of Grand Prairie, TX; daughters Laura and husband Gary DeBoer of Beatrice, Danielle and husband Ryan White of Hickman, and Jessica and husband Zach Dixon of Cortland. Leon is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Surviving siblings are sisters Janice and husband John Schmitt of Fond du Lac, WI and Natalie and husband Eugene Applegate of Plattsmouth; brothers John and wife Diana Eickhoff of Auburn and Keith Eickhoff of Verdon. He was preceded in death by grandson Lane Dixon, parents Lucille and Joe Eickhoff, and sisters Joan Darling and Joyce Rodgers.
He passed suddenly on November 24, 2011, doing what he loved ? working the land.
