Laverne John Gerdes, age 80 of Auburn, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh. He was born December 23, 1927.
Survivors include his wife Shirley of Auburn; children Darvin and wife Marchelle of Washington state; David and wife Robyn of Las Vegas, Nevada; Deborah and husband Ronald Grotrian of Johnson; 6 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; sisters Ora Behrends of Johnson; Maxine Behrends of Johnson; Della and husband Harvey Bergmann of Auburn; brothers Raymond and wife Nadyne Gerdes of Humboldt; Lloyd and wife Marlene Gerdes of Auburn; sisters-in-law Leota Moore of Auburn; Marilyn Heater of Lincoln; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 26, 11:00 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran (Stone) Church near Auburn. The body will be cremated after the services and burial of ashes will be at a later date at the church cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be at the funeral home in Auburn Monday 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends Tuesday 6:00 to 8:00.
Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran (Stone) Church Cemetery.
