A life so long. A life well lived. Born July 12, 1920 Chappell, Nebraska. Died peacefully Thursday, June 10, 2021 at the age of 100 years, 10 months, and 29 days.
Survived and lovingly remembered by daughters Claudia Dougherty (Don) of Lincoln, Krisitine Rotter of St. Paul, MN; granddaughters Jill Santos (AJ) of Lincoln, Jane Miller (Joe) of LaVista; great-grandson Caleb Miller; step-great-grandson Tryston Santos; daughter-in-law Gerda Rotter of Auburn; many, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Vonnie was a 1938 graduate of Brock High School. She became the bride of Raymond Rotter on September 15, 1940. An exceptional cook, voracious reader, and a true “farmer’s wife”, she lived in Brock most of her adult life before moving to Lincoln in 2004. At the time of her death she resided in Eastmont Towers. Brock was always home, however. Vonnie was a life-long member of the Brock United Methodist Church, belonged to United Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star, and Kensington Club. She was a Brock Bugle volunteer, County Election Judge, and member of various card clubs. She had many friends and was loved by all.
LaVaughn is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Clara (Reckaway) Walker, sister Enid Meyer, brothers Keith, Dean, Johnny, and Harold Walker, husband Raymond Rotter, and son Roger Rotter.
So special to her in her later years was Heather at Eastmont Towers, a nurse and family friend who offered genuine care, unending conversation, and love. A cherished gift.
Vonnie will be laid to rest next to her husband Raymond at Lafayette Cemetery near Brock. And what a reunion that will be when they meet at Heaven’s Gate! “Boand-ie (Dad was famous for his nicknames), I’ve been waiting for you. What took you so long?” And soon enough they’ll be dancing to Glenn Miller’s “String of Pearls”!
A funeral service will take place on Monday, June 14, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Brock, NE. Burial will follow in Lafayette Cemetery at Brock. Visitation will be on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
