Larry Dale Holthus, one of four children of Albert and Valerie (Hoops) Holthus, was born October 1, 1943 in Humboldt, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran (Stone) Church, and was a lifetime member there. Larry attended rural school near his home, and graduated from Johnson High School.
From 1967 to 1973 Larry served in the Army National Guard, stationed at the Auburn Armory. He was honorably discharged at the end of his service.
Larry farmed almost his entire life, from helping other farmers as a young man to owning and operating his own farm in his adult years. He enjoyed working the soil and tending to his livestock as well.
On Saturday, January 2, 2010, Larry was found at his home near Johnson, Nebraska, his life on earth having ended after 66 years, 3 months, and 1 day. His parents, grandparents, and sister-in-law Sondra Holthus preceded him in death.
Larry is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Sharyl Holthus of Elk Creek, NE; sisters and brother-in-law Sharon Kay Martin of Statesville, NC; Velda R. and H. Donald Stewart of Asheville, NC; nieces Crystal Boots and Amanda McGowen; nephews Ryan Martin, James Helton, Connor Stewart, and Hoke Stewart; other relatives and many friends.
