Kent Leon Dorste, son of Clarence J. and Elma (Weddle) Dorste, was born December 4, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri. As a young boy, Kent’s family moved to southeast Nebraska, where he would attend rural school through the 5th grade and graduated from Stella High School in 1963. After high school, Kent went on and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Peru State College.
On January 21, 1967, Kent was united in marriage to Judith Lynne Thompson in the Peru Methodist Church. Except for a couple years in Butte, they made their home in Auburn, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Jenny and Rosie.
While in Butte, Kent taught high school industrial arts. After two years of teaching, Kent decided it was not for him and he and Judy moved to Auburn where he began working for local contractors. He then worked at Mead Lumber Company until its closing, and then continued working carpentry for local contractors.
Kent loved wood-working projects, whether it was making furniture or art pieces. He was especially interested in Intarsia wood working, a process he began working with around 2010, and made over 300 Intarsia projects. Kent also was fascinated with flying machines and learned to fly in 1990.
With his health failing, Kent was admitted to Bryan Medical Center East Campus in Lincoln. It was there that he passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, having reached the age of 78 years, 4 months, and 3 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, and brother Richard.
Those left to mourn his passing include his daughters and son-in-law Jenny and Jeff Vlas of Birmingham, AL, Rosie Dorste of McCook; grandchildren Morgan Arnold and Sullivan Arnold both of McCook; niece Kim Dorste of Omaha; great-niece Katie Dorste; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be Saturday, June 8, 10:00 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn.
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
