Kenneth Lee Holthus was born December 5, 1948, in Humboldt, Nebraska to Albert and Valerie (Hoops) Holthus. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran (Stone) Church. Kenny attended rural school near his home and graduated from Johnson High School in 1967.
Following his high school graduation Kenny enlisted in the Nebraska Army National Guard. He was stationed at the Armory in Auburn, Nebraska until his honorable discharge in 1973.
On February 14, 1998, Kenny married Sharyl Borrell at Stone Church, and her children Amanda and Jamie became a part of his family.
Farming was everything to Kenny. From working on the farm as a young man to owning his own farm, Kenny took pride in his crops and looking after his livestock. He also had worked at Brinkman Implement John Deere dealership for a few years.
Kenny became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn in May of 2023. He passed away there on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the age of 74 years, 5 months, and 27 days. His parents, first wife Sondra, and brother Larry preceded him in death.
Those left to mourn Kenny’s passing include his wife Sharyl of Elk Creek; daughter Amanda Larkin of Charleston, NC; son Jamie Helton of Fayetteville, AR; grandchildren Chloe, Avery, Cheyenne, James, Joshua, Jonathan, and Goody; great-grandson Waylon; sisters Sharon McGee, Velda Stewart; brothers-in-law Sam (Patti) Borrell, Delbert Borrell, Dan (Diane) Borrell; numerous other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, June 6, 10:30 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial will follow in St. John (Stone) Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
