Kenneth Gerhard Fossenbarger, 66, of Brock passed away October 29, 2010 in the comfort of his home after a two-year battle with cancer. Kenneth was born March 10, 1944 to Gerhard and Margaret Christine (Stillahn) Fossenbarger. He was the youngest of three children in the family. He lived his whole life on his family farm except for two years (1967-1969) when he was in the Army. He went to basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and was later stationed in Norfolk, Virginia.
Kenneth graduated from Brock High School in 1962. On November 18, 1966, he married Jane Bose. Four children, Barb, Amy, Jeff and Mike, were born to this union. Kenneth worked on his family farm and raised cattle from the age of 12 until he became ill. He also worked as a trackman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, which later merged with the Union Pacific Railroad, for 36 years before retiring in 2006. During his lifetime, he held several other jobs including working for the Nebraska City News Press, Keim?s Construction in Tecumseh and Wood Carve in Auburn.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Jane, of Brock; daughters, Barbara Svoboda and husband, Randy, of David City and Amy Elam and husband, Curt, of Rock Port, MO; sons, Jeffrey Fossenbarger and wife, Laura Lea, of Johnson, and Michael Fossenbarger and special friend, Elizabeth Bartak, of Omaha; 10 grandchildren, Curtis Elam, Jr., Emily Elam, Bailey Svoboda, Evan Elam, Macy Svoboda, Cole Fossenbarger, Erika Elam, Caleb Fossenbarger, Reese Svoboda and Rylan Svoboda; sisters, Katherine Roberts Swanson of Omaha and Imogene Dunekacke and husband, Arnold, of Johnson; many extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 2, 10:00 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial will be in Grant Evergreen Cemetery near Talmage, with full military honors. Visitation will be at the funeral home in Auburn Monday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00.
