Karen Ann (Marcucci) Mowery was born April 1, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois to Louis and Beatrice Marcucci. She moved with her family to Burbank, California at a young age, and graduated there from John Burroughs High School.
On November 15, 1963, Karen was united in marriage to Allan Mowery in Burbank. They made their home in California and were blessed with two sons, Ron and Greg. In 1977 they moved to Auburn, Nebraska.
With Allan’s help Karen opened and operated Taco Del Sol restaurant in Auburn. The restaurant then became El Senors, and following Allan selling the bowling alley in Auburn, the couple opened a second El Senors location in Nebraska City. After closing the restaurants Karen worked in administration at Cooper Nuclear Station before retiring.
Karen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Auburn, where she taught CCD for several years. She belonged to the Auburn Country Club and played in Ladie’s League and bowled in league play at their bowling alley. Karen collected jadeite collectible glasses and assorted beer steins, traveling to shows and markets to add to her collections.
Mostly, Karen loved raising her sons and attending their sporting activities, including football games and Legion baseball.
In recent years Karen suffered from ailments that required her move to the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn in July 2021. It was there she passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at the age of 76 years, 2 months, and 18 days. She was preceded in death by her son Greg, her parents, and her brothers Bob, Paul, and Shorty.
Among the many who will miss Karen are her husband Allan of Auburn; son and daughter-in-law Ron and Shelly Mowery of Lake Quivira, KS; grandchildren Alyssa (Lane) Smith of Nashville, TN, Morgan Mowery (Leroy Braden) of Cape May, NJ, Max Mowery of Lenexa, KS, Ian Mowery of Lake Quivira, KS; great grandchildren Preston and Tanner Smith, Brooks Braden; sister Donna (Mike) Yanks of Maryville, MO; other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 27, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Auburn. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery at Auburn. Visitation will be at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn on Sunday from noon to 6:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 4:00 to 6:00.
