Joseph Leroy Petet, one of seven children of Jack and Norma June (Krull) Petet, was born February 3, 1956 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Joe graduated from high school in Lincoln, Nebraska.
After high school Joe joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He served until his honorable discharge in 1980, reaching the rank of Sergeant.
On June 23, 1990 Joe was united in marriage to Sheril (Jones) Bennett in Tecumseh, Nebraska. They each had two children from previous marriages, and would be blessed with a son, Brandon, to add to their family.
Joe had a varied work history. He worked at the Kawasaki Manufacturing Plant in Lincoln, Campbell’s Soup Factory in Tecumseh, and the Armstrong Cabinet Factory in Auburn, Nebraska until it closed. He then went to work for Fairview Mills in Auburn in the old location of Armstrong Cabinets.
Joe enjoyed working wood projects in his spare time, and was especially known for his homemade Christmas decorations. He was also a fan of NASCAR and Husker football.
As health issues arose, Joe entered Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln on November 20, 2015. He passed away there on Friday, December 4, 2015 at the age of 59 years, 10 months, and 1 day. His father, sister Janice, and brother Jerry preceded him in death.
Joe is survived by his wife Sheril of Auburn; children and their spouses Chad and Nichole Petet of Beatrice; Sherry and Jimmy Lantz of Beatrice; Shannon Bennett of Auburn; Dustin Bennett of Auburn; Brandon and Pearle Petet of Auburn; grandchildren Brianna Petet, Joseph McCarthy, Braden Lantz, Mikayla Rose Petet, and Easton Joseph Petet; mother Norma Petet of Beatrice; sisters Judy Pope of Beatrice; Joyce Smith of Beatrice; brothers Jack Petet of Beatrice; John Petet of New Mexico; other relatives and friends.
