Jerry Irvin Smith, one of two children of Bud and Lois (Handley) Smith, was born September 15, 1941, in Auburn, Nebraska.

He attended school in Nemaha, Nebraska through 8th grade and graduated from Auburn High School. On October 1, 1961, Jerry was united in marriage to Betty Ann Darling at the Auburn Christian Church. They were blessed with three sons: Kevin, Lanny, and Mark.

Jerry spent a good part of his life as an ‘over the road truck driver'. He started driving for Ralph Darling in Auburn, then worked as an independent driver for many years. He retired at age 65 from Yellow Freight Company.
In his spare time Jerry liked to just fiddle around the house working on whatever needed attention. He liked to cook and fish and enjoyed golfing as a member of the Auburn Country Club.
Betty passed away on February 28, 2019, and Jerry continued to live in their home in Auburn. As his health failed, he was admitted to Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

He passed away there on December 21, 2022, at the age of 81 years, 3 months, and 6 days. In addition to Betty, Jerry’s parents preceded him in death.

Jerry is survived by his sons Kevin and Bobbi of Henry, IL, Lanny and Fong of Beijing, China, and Mark of Tonkawa, OK; grandchildren Brandon, Tyler, Shelby, and Gunner; 2 great grandchildren; sister Nancy White of Auburn; other relatives and friends.
