Jerry D. Mcmann

Jerry D. McMann, one of three children of Thomas “Lash” and Opal Pearl (Reeves) McMann, was born August 4, 1941 in Auburn, Nebraska. He grew up in Brownville, Nebraska where he attended school in his early years. In 1951 his family moved to Auburn where Jerry attended school and graduated from Auburn High School.
Jerry joined the Nebraska National Guard in the early ‘60’s and served during the Vietnam War.
On April 1, 1965 Jerry was united in marriage to Evelyan Wampler in Rock Port, Missouri. They made their home in Nebraska City briefly before moving to Auburn to live. The couple was blessed with two children, Lyle and Shelly.
Jerry had worked at the grain elevators in Brownville and Nebraska City before going to work for Engles Oil in Auburn. He was with the company for over 30 years until their closing. Jerry next worked for Sherman Seed in Auburn until retiring.
A member of the Auburn Christian Church, Jerry enjoyed collecting eagles, Husker memorabilia, hats, and classic car miniatures. He liked to work on wood projects and decorate for Christmas with Evelyan. Jerry didn’t know a stranger, and always had a joke to tell.
In June of 2019 Jerry became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. It was there he passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the age of 78 years and 6 days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Evelyan on November 12, 2015.
Jerry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Lyle and Kendra McMann of Auburn; daughter and son-in-law Shelly and John Mullins of Sidney, IA; grandchildren Garrett and wife Nicole McMann, Kelly McMann, Jacqueline Rohrs and significant other Cody Whitmire, Dustine Rohrs, Jacob McMann and significant other Sara Baker, Alyssa Rohrs and significant other Dekken Felmley, Alicia and husband Josh Buechler, Ryan Mullins and significant other Ashley Bartholomew; great-grandchildren Noah Shaver, Caydence, Karsyn, and Kylar Kenealy, Zakkery Bartholomew, Hudsyn Mullins, Juliana Fanning, Mason and Emersyn Buechler, Audrey and Connor McMann, and Tenzley Whitmire; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Linda Jo McMann of Turon, KS; sister Marilyn McMann of Sidney, IA; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service will be Wednesday, August 14, 10:30 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery at Brownville. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00.
