Irene Hahn

Irene Mary Dorothea (Hector) Hahn was born December 22, 1917 to Karl and Elizabeth (Grube) Hector west of Johnson, Nebraska. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church near Johnson. Irene attended Washington School near her home for two years, and received the remainder of her education in Kingsville and San Benito, Texas, graduating from San Benito High School in 1936.

In 1942 she was united in marriage to Lowell E. Hahn at Zion Lutheran. The couple made their home in Auburn, Nebraska, where they joined St. Paul Lutheran Church. They were together for almost 58 years, and were blessed with three children, Elizabeth, Charles, and Nancy.

At St. Paul, Irene was a member of the Dorcas Circle and taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was an active member of the Sunshine Extension Club and the Auburn Women?s Club.

After Lowell?s retirement, Irene and he took a number of trips to Europe and to visit their daughter, Nancy in Indonesia. For many years Irene and Lowell wintered in Rio Hondo, Texas.

After a short illness, Irene passed away at Tabitha Nursing Home in Lincoln, Nebraska on Friday, May 4, 2012 at the age of 94 years, 4 months, and 12 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lowell, her son Charles, and brother Arnold.

Irene is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Elizabeth and Bobby Lee Askue of Dover, AR; Nancy and Brendan Rodgers of Sandpoint, ID; daughter-in-law Diane Burton of Lincoln; grandson Charles ?Chad? D. Hahn III and wife Gretchen of Tucson, AZ; granddaughter Amy Davis and her husband Jonathan of Houston, TX; great-granddaughter Carley Elizabeth Hahn and great-grandson Tristan Drake Davis; step-granddaughters Christine and Patricia; sister-in-law Benny of Colorado Springs, CO; nieces, and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be Friday, May 11, 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn. Inurnment of ashes will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 5:00 to 7:00.
