Helen Louise (Duckworth) Stevenson, daughter of Arthur and Wilhemina (Schreck) Duckworth was born on the family farm near Chariton, Iowa on September 5, 1915.
Helen spent her early years in the Chariton, Iowa area. She was employed in Des Moines, IA, when she met John H. Stevenson. They were married at the Epworth Methodist Church in Des Moines, IA on June 18, 1938.
John and Helen made their first home in Auburn, NE. In 1948 they moved to Peru, NE, where they raised their family.
Helen was an active member of both the Methodist church in Peru and later the Community Church in Peru. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Quercus Club. Helen also volunteered with the Peru Print-Out and the museum and was always willing to provide baked goods for the Peru Community or Church fundraisers. Helen moved to Auburn, NE in July of 2005.
Helen?s family and friends were her greatest joys in life. Helen passed away on April 4, 2010 having reached the age of 94 years, 6 months, and 30 days.
Helen leaves behind to mourn her four sons: David and wife Delores of Albuquerque, NM; John of Nemaha, NE; Paul and wife Mary of Nebraska City, NE; and Carl of Brownville, NE. Other survivors include grandsons Chris and Mark of Nemaha, Jeff Dively of Omaha, James of Albuquerque, NM, and granddaughter Tracy Mankamyer of Omaha, NE. Seven great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sister-in-law Evelyn Duckworth, and nephew Tom Stevenson, and nieces Diane Lilly and Janet Zeisser.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 53 years, John on August 16, 1991, sister Carolyn Pozarski, brothers John, Gerald, Carl, and Paul Duckworth, sisters-in-law Margaret Stevenson, Pearl Stevenson, Mary Hodges, Esther Duckworth, and Ermal Duckworth, brothers-in-law Bill Stevenson, Donald Stevenson, and Tom Pozarski, two nephews and one niece.
The family requests no flowers, memorials are suggested to the Peru Rescue Squad.
