Helen Leah Benson

Helen Leah Benson of Johnson, NE, was born on January 6, 1932, in Blount County, Tennessee, to Homer and Vera (Russell) Teffeteller. Helen passed away on May 17, 2024, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt having reached the age of 92 years, 4 months, and 11 days. Helen grew up in Maryville, TN, with her 8 brothers.

In 1956 she married Glenn Arthur Beasterfield and moved to Kansas. They were blessed with three children. After just six years of marriage, Glenn passed away in a work-related accident leaving Helen to raise the children alone on the farm. Helen’s faith in God and strong spirit served her well in the years ahead. The farm provided wonderful memories for the kids and grandkids in the coming years. In 1971 Helen remarried and Roger Benson joined the family. They were married 13 years before Roger passed away.

Helen worked at the dress factory in Holton and was an amazing seamstress. In 1979, following a few years as a school custodian, Helen began work at the VA Hospital in Topeka as a nurse’s aide which gave her much joy. She worked on the psych ward and provided care and respect for the veterans. Helen loved to quilt, crochet, garden, and vacation with family having traveled to almost all 50 states.

She will forever be remembered by her grandchildren for the homemade applesauce that came from her kitchen. Helen’s family rejoices in knowing that she is in heaven having received the gift of salvation provided by Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. Her time on earth has ended but she lives eternally with her Heavenly Father.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Glenn & Roger, eight brothers, daughter Pam Danley, and grandson Glenn Beasterfield. Helen is survived by her children Ray (Beverly) Beasterfield of Johnson, NE, and Ira

(Marcia) Beasterfield of Rib Lake, WI; son-in-law Casey Danley; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service is being planned for a later date.
