Fred Andrew Obermeyer, son of Andrew Fred and Kristine Marie (Bendixen) Obermeyer, was born March 16, 1928, in Cook, Nebraska. He attended rural schools in southeast Nebraska and graduated Stella High School. after high school Fred served in the U. S. Army Infantry and the Army National Guard.
On April 2, 1949, Fred was united in marriage to Phyllis Ann Palmer at the Christian Church in Auburn, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Auburn, and were joined by a daughter, Ann.
Pete, as he was known to many, started working in downtown Auburn in 1948. In 1963 he began his career in automobile dealerships at Pohlman Motors. After about 10 years he purchased the dealership, and operated Obermeyer Motors in Auburn until his retirement in 1993.
Fred was baptized in the Christian Church the year of his marriage, and through the years served as church treasurer, trustee, and on the Church Board and Board of Elders.
He was a member of Kiwanis and the Masonic Lodge in Auburn, and also belonged to the Junior Chamber and Chamber of Commerce. Pete was instrumental in many improvements to Auburn through his work with the Chamber, and accordingly he received “Man of the Year” honors. Always willing to serve, he also was active in the Republican Party, with the National Ford Board, and volunteered with the Nemaha Valley Museum. In his spare time, he enjoyed handiwork, including repairs around the house.
In their later years, Fred and Phyllis sold their home in Auburn and moved to Longs Creek Assisted Living in town. They moved to good Samaritan Society in March of 2016. On April 18, 2016, Fred was admitted to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn. It was there he passed away, with family around him, on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. He had reached the age of 88 years, 1 month, and 4 days. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law Mary and Ronald Wilson, Edna and Walter Sanders, Freda and Russel Wilson, and brothers and sister-in-law Herman Obermeyer and Irvin and Elsie Obermeyer.
Fred is survived by his wife Phyllis of Auburn; daughter Ann Obermeyer; sisters-in-law Rita Obermeyer of Auburn; Judy Kimball of Auburn; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to Auburn Volunteer Fire Department or Eli Davidson Missionary Fund.
