Eldon DeWane Moore, one of three children of Clarence and Edna (Kuhlmann) Moore, was born August 26, 1936 in Elk Creek, Nebraska. His early education was in Elk Creek, and Eldon graduated from Johnson High School in Johnson, Nebraska.
On October 18, 1958 Eldon was united in marriage to Barbara Burger at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn, Nebraska. They made their home in Auburn,
and helped to raise three nephews.
Eldon served in the Nebraska National Guard for several years. He had worked as a mechanic for Gus Niebrugge until the shop closed. Eldon then joined the staff at Johnson Motor Company, where he stayed for over 25 years, retiring in 2003.
Eldon was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn. He enjoyed working on cars, carpentry, and playing cards. He also loved to square dance with Barbara when they were able.
Suffering from ailing health in recent times, Eldon was admitted to Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln recently. Upon being transported to the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn, Eldon passed away just as he was arriving at Good Sam on Monday, September 16, 2019. He was 83 years and 21 days of age and was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Ann, sister-in-law Dorothy Kurrelmeyer, and nephews Charles Bensley and Jim Bigley.
Eldon is survived by his wife Barbara of Auburn; brother Bill Moore of Sutherland; sister-in-law Beverly Bensley of Auburn; nephew John Bensley of Clay Center, KS; niece-in-law Amanda Bensley of Lincoln; great-niece Brylie; other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was held September 20, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Ken Miller. Edith Schlange was accompanist for congregational hymns. Serving as casket bearers were John Bensley, Frank Critser, Bruce Broady, Jeff Jeanneret, Ray Munson, and Josh Whitney. Burial followed in Sheridan West Cemetery at Auburn with graveside military honors provided by American Legion Post #23 of Auburn.
