Edith Mae (Scears) Furnas, one of seven children of Arthur and Mary-I-Zetta (Turner) Scears, was born July 3, 1924 in the Honey Creek area near Peru, Nebraska. She attended school in Peru.
On August 16, 1941 Edith was united in marriage to Glen Furnas in Sabetha, Kansas. The couple made their home in Brownville, Nebraska to raise their family.
Edith was first and foremost a homemaker, but she also worked outside the home. She had worked at the Danny Dare Factory in Auburn, Nebraska, as well as WoodCarv Cabinet Manufacturing. She and Glen also started a gaming business, and Edith continued this business into her later years.
Edith had been a member of the Auburn Eagles Auxiliary, enjoyed card playing, and loved to dance. She sewed for her family and her vegetable garden always resulted in lots of canned goods for the pantry.
On Tuesday, June 2, 2015, Edith passed away at Pleasant View Care Center in Rock Port, Missouri at the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 30 days. Her husband Glen, sons Lester and Dennis, brother Raymond, and sister Georgia Shandy preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Naomi Furnas of Brownville; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters Audrey Hartman of Lincoln; Ann Hendrickson of Peru; Pauline and husband George Coddington of Poughkeepsie, NY; brother Paul and wife Sally Hendrickson of Running Water, SD; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be Saturday, June 6, 10:00 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery at Brownville. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00.
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to family choice.
