Dwight Hawley

December 10, 1926 — June 9, 2013

Glendon Dwight Hawley, one of four children of Charles R. and Inez (Lockwood) Hawley, was born December 10, 1926 in Auburn, Nebraska. He attended school in Brock, Nebraska, graduating from high school there in 1945.

On March 5, 1946 Dwight was united in marriage to Catherine Hoover in Seneca, Kansas. They made their first home in Brock, and in 1963 moved to the family farm near Brock. They were blessed with five children: Carol, Sammy, Helen, John, and Charles.

As a lifelong farmer, Dwight loved what he did. He was a devoted steward of the land, and enjoyed being involved in all aspects of the farm and having his sons and grandsons join him in his endeavors.

Dwight was a friend of the Brock United Methodist Church and participated in many community activities. He liked to travel, seeing how crops were doing in other parts of the country, and enjoyed hunting when he was able. Dwight always enjoyed visiting with others about any subject that would come up. Most of all, though, Dwight loved his family and watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as they grew and began activities of all sorts.

As his health began to fail, Dwight eventually became bed-ridden at his longtime home on the farm. It was there, on Sunday, June 9, 2013, with family around him, that he passed away at the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 30 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Inez; father- and mother-in-law Donald and Opal Hoover; brother Leland Hawley; brothers-in-law Loren Clark and Virgil Bohling; sister-in-law Phyllis Hoover; and grandchildren Tom & Melissa Jeanneret.

Dwight is survived by his wife Catherine of Brock; children Carol (Robert) Schmucker of Raymond, NE; Sammy of Auburn; Helen (John) Jeanneret of Johnson; John (Nancy) of Auburn; Charles (Janet) of Auburn; grandchildren and spouses Jan Wilkinson; Angela (Ted) Hetzel; Sara (Brian) Moody; Eric (Holly) Hawley; Aron (Jennifer) Hawley; Cody (Melissa) Hawley; Katy (Guy) Cipolla; 18 great-grandchildren plus one on the way; sisters Betty Bohling of Auburn; Connie Clark of Omaha; sisters-in-law Floydean Hawley of Edgar, NE; Ann (Jack) Dick of Tecumseh, KS; brother-in-law Don Hoover (friend Gerry Vanover) of Hoyt, KS; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Larry Tolen. Don Hoover sang solos accompanied by Gerry Vanover. Burial followed in the Clifton Cemetery near Brock. Serving as pallbearers were Eric Hawley, Aron Hawley, Cody Hawley, Ted Hetzel, Brian Moody, Guy Cipolla, and Phil Walker. Jan Wilkinson, Angela Hetzel, Sara Moody, Katy Cipolla, Holly Hawley, Jennifer Hawley, and Melissa Hawley presented roses.
