Dorothy (Allen) Blount

Dorothy (Allen) Blount, one of two children of Chester and Lulu (Bell) Allen, was born May 4, 1914, in rural Nemaha County, Nebraska. She attended Bedford School near her home and graduated from Auburn High School in 1932.

Dorothy received a teaching degree from Peru State Teachers College in 1937, and later added classes from the University of Nebraska. She taught kindergarten in Scotia, Nebraska in 1938.

On January 1, 1941 Dorothy was united in marriage to Harold Blount at the First Presbyterian Church in Omaha, Nebraska. A son, John, and a daughter, Barbara Jean, were born to the couple.

Both Dorothy and Harold taught in Chicago after their marriage. They later taught at locations in Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska. The couple retired from teaching while they were in Lincoln, Nebraska. At that time they moved to Auburn, Nebraska.

After Harold’s passing in 1997, Dorothy continued to live in their home in Auburn until November of 2014. It was then she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. Dorothy passed away at Good Sam on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the age of 100 years, 10 months, and 19 days. In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara in 1962, son John in 2008, and her brother Arthur in 1999.

Dorothy had no living relatives at the time of her death.

A graveside funeral service and committal was Friday, March 27, 2015 at Sheridan Cemetery near Auburn.
