Doris Emelyn Dovel, one of three children of Elmer and Gertrude (Robertson) Dovel, was born January 2, 1921 in Auburn, Nebraska. She attended and graduated from high school in Auburn, and then attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri. Doris would later attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska.
In January 1944 Doris enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Pharmacists Mate during World War II. After her honorable discharge in December 1945 Doris returned to Lincoln and a position with Lincoln General Hospital. She remained with the hospital until retiring years later as Chief Medical Technologist in Pathology Medical Services.
Doris was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Lincoln. She was a Life Member of the American Legion, and was active in Chapter DN P.E.O. She had accumulated many friends and acquaintances through her work and various interests in the community.
Although she faced a sight deficiency, Doris was able to continue to live at her home in Lincoln until late in life. She became a resident of Gateway Senior Living in November 2010, and within a week was admitted to Bryan LGH East Medical Center. She passed away there on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 14 days. Her parents, brother Irvin, and sister and brother-in-law Inez and Roy Steinheider preceded her in death.
Doris is survived by her nephew Robb and wife Sue Steinheider of Riverside, CA; great-nephew Fritz and wife Amy Steinheider of Indianapolis, IN; cousin Jayne Broyles of Cheyenne, WY; other relatives and many friends.
