Donald Williams

July 16, 1924 — October 31, 2011

Donald Eugene Williams was born on a farm just north of Stella, Nebraska on July 16, 1924. He was the second of three sons of Albert and Nita (Duerfeldt) Williams. Don attended a rural one room school during his grade school years. When he was 12 years old Don broke his arm in a serious fall from a corn crib, and the arm was crippled for life. He attended and graduated from Stella High School in 1941 at the age of 16.

Don began farming with his father and helped with the business all through the war years. He was unable to serve in World War II because of his injured arm.

In October of 1949 Don married E. Darlene Tasler, and together they farmed their entire lives. Four children were born to this union: Donna Darlene, Robert Edward, Sue Ellen, and Bill Eugene. Don and Darlene first lived on the Midgley farm near Stella. They moved with their three young children to rural Shubert, Nebraska and share-cropped the Weddle farm. In 1962 Don and Darlene purchased the home place where they both lived out their lives. Don farmed until his 77th year.

Don is survived by his four children, Donna Lockard and husband Sid of Stella; Robert ?Bob? Williams of Shubert; Sue Bantz of Stella; Bill Williams and wife Linda of Stella; grandchildren Matt Lockard of Dannebrog, NE; Shannon Wamsley and husband Jed of Humboldt; Brandy Raftery and husband Will of Lincoln; Lee Williams of Lincoln; Kyle Bantz and wife Gynae of Nebraska City; Lacey Bantz Karpinski and husband Bud of Barada; Jake Williams of Herndon, KS; great-grandchildren Lily Wamsley, Axton Wamsley, Wyett Karpinski, Ty Karpinski, Clayton Bantz; brothers Lloyd Williams of Auburn; Bob Williams and wife Dorothy of Comanche, IA; nephews, nieces, and many friends.
