Donald Lee Koeneke, one of two sons of Cleo and Velma (Gilmore) Koeneke, was born October 12, 1929 at Humboldt, Nebraska. He attended rural schools near Humboldt.
On April 8, 1951 Don was united in marriage to Wilma Imhof in Humboldt. They were blessed with one son, Tim, and made their home first in the Humboldt area and later in Johnson, Nebraska.
Don started out helping others with their farming, and later would work as a gas station attendant and in grocery stores either at Humboldt or Johnson. In addition to his work, Don enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in his younger years.
After his retirement and because of ill health, Don gradually became more confined to his home. He chose to remain at home through his health problems, and it was there he passed away on Friday, November 12, 2010 one month after his 81st birthday. His parents and brother Larry preceded him in death.
Don is survived by his wife Wilma of Johnson; son Tim and wife Rena Koeneke of Wickenburg, AZ; grandchildren Bryan Koeneke of Raleigh, NC and Kelly Koeneke of Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law Theone Kuhlman of Falls City; other relatives and friends.
According to his wishes, Don?s body has been cremated and no visitation or services are planned at this time. Private family inurnment of ashes will be at a later date in the Johnson Cemetery.
