Doloris Arlene Haack was born April 2, 1924 in rural Nemaha County, Nebraska to Julius and Emilia (Deubler) Haack. She was baptized April 27, 1924 and confirmed November 6, 1938 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church near Johnson by Rev. Wm. Freuhling. Doloris attended rural school in Johnson County, and graduated from Elk Creek High School in 1941.
On November 4, 1951 Doloris was united in marriage to Theodore Bohling at Martin Luther, again by Rev. Freuhling. They made their home on Ted’s family farm, and were blessed with two children, Joyce and Arlen.
Before her marriage, Doloris helped in people’s homes in Tecumseh, Nebraska and at the Swanson Soup Plant in town. After her wedding she helped Ted on the farm, raised her two children, and ran the household.
Doloris switched her church membership to St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church near Auburn and was active in Ruth Naomi Circle and other church affairs. She helped her children as they worked on 4-H projects during their youth. Doloris loved to tend her garden and canned much of the produce it yielded. She was a good baker, known for her homemade rolls.
After Ted’s passing on March 14, 2013 Doloris remained on the farm as long as she was able. She moved to Papillion, Nebraska to live with her daughter and then in assisted living and long-term care facilities. Doloris was admitted to Midland’s Community Hospital in Papillion and passed away there on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the age of 94 years, 9 months, and 20 days. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers-in-law Oleta and Marvin Rinne, Elda and Clarence Beethe, Luetta and Ervin Volker, twin Doloma and Allen Rinne, brother and sister-in-law Lorraine (Kay) Haack, and sister-in-law Dorothy Haack.
Doloris is survived by her children and spouses Joyce and Jay Johnson of Papillion, Arlen and Karen Bohling of Downs, IL; grandchildren Nikki Bohling, Travis Bohling, Kelsey (Mitch) Buckley, Jerod Johnson, and Janel (Frank) Matyja; great-grandchildren Harper and Piper Johnson, Charlie and Theo Matyja, Lorenzo and Nico Escamilla, and Brecken and Grayson Buckley; brother Roger Haack of Beatrice; other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be Friday, January 25, 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church near Auburn. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home in Auburn Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 5:00 to 7:00.
