Della Mae (Pollock) Sohnholz was born December 11, 1933 at Grand Island, Nebraska. She was one of four children born to Fred and Antonia (Scheer) Pollock. Della was baptized December 31, 1933 and confirmed March 30, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1951.
On November 1, 1953 Della was united in marriage to Rudolph Sohnholz at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They were blessed with three children: Neil, Bruce and Sandra. The couple made their home on a farm west of Johnson. After Rudolph?s passing in 2005, Della?s mother came to live with her until her passing in 2007. Della purchased a home and moved into Johnson in 2009.
Della worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island before her marriage to Rudolph. She worked at Campbell Soup Company in Tecumseh for 27 years before retiring in 1995. Della was a member of Tecumseh Lutheran Community Church and a past member of St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church in rural Auburn.
Della?s family was very important to her. She enjoyed gardening especially her many flowers. She was an artist and was known for her paintings on many different items, her favorite being saw blades. The Sohnholz farm was always busy with a variety of animals. She had a special love for horses, horseback riding and her many house pets.
When she was no longer able to live in her home, Della became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Auburn, Nebraska in May, 2012. It was there that she passed away on July 28 at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 17 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother Kenny Pollock, sister and brother-in-law Anita and Lavern Sorensen and brother-in-law Herman Sohnholz.
Della is survived by her children Neil and wife Cindy Sohnholz of Johnson; Bruce and wife Kathy Sohnholz of Johnson; Sandra and husband Jeff Gottula of Elk Creek; grandchildren Kristy Kempkes and special friend Peter Shimmel; Scott and wife Tajia Sohnholz; Joel and wife Ashley Gottula; great grandchildren Michael, Jacob, Zander, Reily, Tristen and Elizabeth; brother Robert and wife Jean Pollock of Grand Island, brother-in-law Roland and wife Cookie Sohnholz of Pine, Colorado and sister-in-law Beverly Sohnholz of Auburn; other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Doyle Karst. Deanne Gerking was accompanist for a solo by Debbie Meyer and congregational singing. Urnbearers were Scott Sohnholz and Joel Gottula, and Kristy Kempkes served as flower attendant. Inurnment of ashes was in St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Cemetery.
