Darleen Evelyn (Coffey) Lane, one of three children of Edward and Evelyn (Harre) Coffey, was born July 1, 1959, at Friend, Nebraska. Darleen was baptized at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Exeter. She attended St. Stephen Catholic School for her early education and then Exeter Public Schools, where she graduated from Exeter High School.
While still in high school, Darleen began working at and running the local café in Exeter. It is at this café that Darleen met her future husband, Dennis Lane. On June 17, 1978, Darleen was united in marriage to Dennis at Exeter. The couple would be blessed with two children: Jessica and Justin.
Darleen did a lot of accounting and bookkeeping work throughout her years, and especially enjoyed her time working at a bank while living in Grand Island. However, to Darleen, her main occupation in life was her family and raising a family of her own. Darleen loved her family very much and they were the most important thing to her.
After moving to Auburn, Darleen became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She had a love for music and playing the piano. Darleen also enjoyed cooking and baking, when asked, she would even bake wedding cakes for friends and family. What brought her the most joy, though, was chasing her children and then grandchildren and attending their various activities.
On the morning of Thursday, October 6, 2022, Darleen passed away at Bellevue Medical Center, having reached the age of 63 years, 3 months, and 5 days. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Coffey; parents-in-law Lloyd and Dorothy Lane; and sister-in-law Ellie Lane.
Those left to remember her loving ways include her husband Dennis of Auburn; daughter Jessica and husband James Paschal of Auburn; son Justin and wife Shayla Lane of Grand Island; grandchildren Gretchen and Wesley Paschal, Charlie and Peyton Lane; mother Evelyn Coffey of Fairmont; brother Glen (Charlotte) Coffey of McCool Junction; sister Kathy (Dennis) Tessman of Hastings; brothers-in-law Wendell (Karen) Lane of Odell, Kent (Pat) Lane of Beatrice, Warren Lane of Odell; many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, October 12, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Auburn. Burial will take place in Evergreen Home Cemetery at Beatrice. Visitation will be at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00.
